WHAT about cobra?

COBRA allows you to stay on your employer's health care plan after you leave the organization. It ensures continued coverage for 18 months, but you become responsible for the total premium. Therefore, it tends to be more expensive than other options.

Catastrophic coverage is designed to protect your health and financial welfare in the case of significant, unexpected injury or illness. All marketplace health plans include catastrophic coverage to limit the maximum amount an individual will pay out-of-pocket in a given year (in 2021, it is $8,550).

What is a catastrophic health plan?

Catastrophic health plans are designed for individuals under 30 (or those who qualify for hardship exemptions) to limit their total annual expenditure for wellness and emergency care.
